Hi there! I'm Mel Bruce-Flitcraft, LPC, LMHC, C-DBT.
My goal is to help you build resiliency by finding new ways to cope with your trauma, depression, and anxiety so you can start feeling like yourself again.
Therapy is very rewarding but difficult work. I believe in meeting you where you are therapeutically while also encouraging you to challenge yourself in the therapeutic process. We will work together at your pace to ensure you are making progress that you can be proud of without becoming overwhelmed by the thoughts and emotions that arise. You are ultimately the decision maker about how to proceed forward in therapy and my role is to facilitate your journey and provide guidance and encouragement.
I am passionate about helping you work through trauma, personality disorders, depression, anxiety, and grief. I know how impactful these issues can be from personal experience or from seeing those close to me experience them. I love working with clients of multicultural backgrounds and am an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist.
Outside of the office my time is spent with my family, friends, golden retriever, and three black cats. I enjoy reading, watching movies, collecting records, antiquing, traveling, and being outdoors. I am originally from the Florida panhandle, so I also love visiting the beach when I can.
My Background
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida. I hold a master’s degree in Counseling & Psychology from Troy University. I have extensive experience working with active-duty service members, veterans, and civilians. I specialize in trauma therapy and treatment of personality disorders and am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Prolonged Exposure (PE) in addition to being certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
In addition to trauma and personality disorders, I work with a variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, grief, self-esteem issues, codependency, and addictions. I specialize in treating combat trauma, sexual trauma, and borderline personality disorder (BPD). My approach is tailored to your needs, strengths, personality, and identity. In addition to EMDR, CPT, and DBT, I utilize an eclectic and holistic approach to therapy which is person-centered and incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Existential/Logotherapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) approaches and techniques. I also utilize SMART Recovery if you are struggling with addictive behaviors.
